I have to thank the protest to give me a chance of staying home this weekend and watched one of the movie that I wish to see for so long, "The Exorcist of Emily Rose". It's not that I'm a big fan of horror movie but there's something about this movie attracted me. It's about the nineteen years old Catholic college girl Emily Rose dies a couple of days after being submitted to an exorcism carried out by her parish priest. Emily believed she was possessed by six demons, and although authorized by Emily and he parents, the priest is accused of negligent homicide, since he had suggested Emily to interrupt the use of medications for epilepsy. In order to avoid a scandal, the Archdiocese hires the successful, ambitious and agnostic lawyer and the prosecution assigns the religious prosecutor. Along the days, there is a battle between science and religion. In the movie, the prosecution says he is the man of faith but his faith not include demons and exorcist, somehow. I thought it's been written in a book about demons and exorcist, hasn't it? I'm sure we have demons in every religion but why it's so hard to believe their existence?
After saw the movie, it has shaken my belief. And also after reading the book "Have a little faith" by Mitch Albom, I have a doubt. How come our belief on religious seem to degenerate this day? I have to admit, I am a hopeless Buddhist. I've never been to temple once a week again since when I was 12. I went to make a merit and prayer once a month or two or whenever I felt like. I possess a few prayer books but never ever read it. I wonder, why? If you ask me, do I believe in Buddha or God? I do. If I believe in sin and karma? I also do as well as ghost and spirit. I also believe that every religion in this world has no harm but to enlighten us. I dearly believe no religion seek the violence but to love our neighbor. So what keep us away from our religion? The worst case, some of us might considers those who's so traditional as a boring old-fashion folk. Why so? How the sacred subject such as religion becomes boring and ignorant?
If I went to church more often, prayer everyday, make a merit once a week, would it make me feel better and be a better person? If we were more religious, would it make the world a better place? I don't have an answer. But I do know that religion is soothing our damage soul and enlighten our blind mind. It could possibly make people's better but how religious could attract people and how could they distract people from their comfortable civilized modern lifestyle? Now a day we care more about material, networking, appearance, etc. but religion. Or religion would be extincted soon? Would human be as a robot; heartless, soul-less?
