Mad City

I just had another chance to see one of a good movie "Mad City" recently. The story is about Sam Baily (John Travolta), upset over losing his job, takes a natural history museum hostage. Max Brackett (Dustin Hoffman), journalist, is in the museum when this occurs, and gets the scoop. The story spreads nation wide, and soon it is all anyone talks about. The story itself is the news, not the reason why or the real people behind it. Sam doesn't quite a sharp person so he doesn't realize how bad the situation he creates with the doubt of people what's really going on inside of the museum and what's truly going on inside of Sam's mind. With all the doubt, curiosity plus a group of ambitious TV reporter, they hunger for a great news to make their career even if they have to defame someone. Without any morality and humanity, Sam is a victim. "We kill him." Max says when he got out of a museum before it blown up while Sam still in there.

I can definitely relate to that story. Long time ago there's a naive girl who got into an entertainment business by luck. She trusted everyone because they've been there longer and because of their promising and their sweet words. She didn't hesitate when they told her to have a clean and good image for her success and they will support her through the way. She learned that later it could be tough and ugly and when it got to the point that everyone had to stand on their own benefit, she was abandoned. Just another victim of the failure of morality and humanity.

When you misjudge someone without any fact or investigation, you already ruin someone's life. Of course you might not feel guilty because you want to believe that you are right and they are wrong. I hope that everyday when you go to sleep, you can close your eyes and sleep peacefully without any frightened that how many life you destroy and you don't have to keep prayer that one day it's not you who falls as a victim.
